Friends and supporters of the Alameda Education Foundation were on hand March 14 for a screening of the documentary Miracle in a Box – A Piano Reborn at Auctions by the Bay. The documentary, by Academy award-winner John Korty and narrated by John Lithgow, is about piano restoration by Callahan Piano artisans. Guests were also treated to a piano recital by Alameda students.,

The Boys & Girls Club of Alameda hosted its 22nd annual auction and dinner, A Magical Evening, at the Oakland Airport Hilton on March 10. Sports anchor Mark Ibanez of KTVU-TV, Channel 2, hosted the evening, which featured a silent and live auction, as well as dinner and dancing. Members of the capacity crowd competed for a trip to Hawaii, but the real winners were the children served by Boys & Girls Club programs, which benefited from funds raised at the event. Images of Alameda

It was art and wine galore at the Rock Wall Wine Co. on April 17 as more than 150 guests attended the inaugural Images of Alameda & Wine Tasting gala, a benefit for Alameda Hospital and the Frank Bette Center for the Arts. The work of twenty-one local artists who participated in FBC’s spring plein air event was exhibited, and paintings were sold to raise money for the organizations. Guests could vote for their favorite piece and participate in a raffle as they sampled wines poured by Rock Wall Wine Company, R & B Cellars and Blacksmith Cellars, nibbled delectables from Angela’s Bistro and listened to the Franz-Nichols Band.,
