San Francisco's highly acclaimed and historic Greens Restaurant is celebrating its fortieth anniversary this year, starting in July, by staging a dinner series featuring six renowned Bay Area chefs — including three East Bay icons.
Alice Waters of Berkeley's Chez Panisse, Tanya Holland of Oakland's Brown Sugar Kitchen; Reem Assil of Oakland's Reem's California; Suzette Gresham of San Francisco's Acquerello; Kim Alter of San Francisco's Nightbird; and Pam Mazzola of San Francisco's Prospect are all taking part in the project.
Each of the six chefs will design a four-course vegetarian prix-fixe meal inspired by the fare offered at Greens over the last forty years — and inspired too by the restaurant's core values: generosity, patience, virtue, energy, focus, and connection.
The six dinners will span the calendar from July through December of this year.
Launching the "Greens 40th Anniversary Acclaimed Chef Dinner Series," Assil's meal (priced at $85) will be served on July 9. Waters' dinner will be served on August 5. Gresham's will be served on Sept. 11. Alter's will be served on Oct. 7. Holland's will be served on Nov. 4. Mazzola's will be served on Dec. 11.
