Coolest Art Camp for Kids
With a rad retro vibe and bubbly personality, Jo Anne Yada (Ms. Y, as the kids like to call her) corners the market on kid's camp cool with her after-school, holiday, and summer endeavors known as Art With Ms Y. Yada is a staple of the Alameda arts and education scenes and a former school district substitute teacher. She is currently working with the Alameda Music Project after-school program at Maya Lin Elementary in addition to running her increasingly popular art camp. Engaging the kids by connecting the music she loves with visual arts, Ms. Y is an easy favorite of Gen X and Millennial parents because she creates cultural experiences that the parents can connect with and are happy to share with their offspring. Ms. Y teaches her young charges of the delights in rocking out with Joan Jett and the Ramones, discovering the roots of R&B with Aretha Franklin, and busting out their boogie shoes like the dancers on Soul Train. This summer Ms. Y is hyped to bring her six-session camp to the Pacific Pinball Museum, spreading sweet school-free energy along Webster Street this summer.
