Blue Bottle Coffee announced this week that it will open a location in Seoul, Korea in the second quarter of 2019.

According to a press release, this will be the Oakland-based coffee company's second overseas location since it launched in Tokyo three years ago.

"We feel very close to our South Korean guests, having known them for years in our cafes in the U.S. and Japan and on social media," Blue Bottle CEO Bryan Meehan said.

"Now, Blue Bottle Coffee will no longer be just a tourist destination for them, but a part of the fabric of Seoul."

The new red-brick shop will be in Seoul's Seongsu neighborhood, a startup-, gallery-, and brewery-dotted district that many call "the Brooklyn of Seoul."

"We are eager to share Blue Bottle with the community of Seoul, and we have so many surprises in store for our guests there," said Blue Bottle founder James Freeman.

The new shop will sell menu items and merchandise not sold at any other Blue Bottle locations.

"It will be like no other Blue Bottle anywhere in the world," Freeman said.
