The fast-casual restaurant group Halal Guys is opening its sixth Bay Area location on Feb. 8 in Fremont.
Beginning at 11 a.m., the first fifty customers in line on grand-opening day will receive free platters of gyro, felafel, chicken, and the Halal Guys' white and hot sauce. All day until midnight, guests will also be invited to spin a prize wheel and win gifts.
Halal Guys had its beginnings in 1990, when its three co-founders began operating a hot-dog cart in New York City — and soon learned that Muslim cab drivers searched the city for halal meals, mainly in vain.
The partners started selling halal-certified chicken and over rice.
The menu has since expanded to include gyros, felafel, fries, baba ganouch, baklava, and more. Meals can be ordered in platter or sandwich form.
Now boasting hundreds of locations nationwide as well as in Canada, Korea, and the Philippines, the group expanded into the Bay Area two years ago, launching a shop in San Francisco, then more in Berkeley, Oakland, and beyond.
