On Valentine's Day, Alameda's Hangar 1 distillery will release two new limited-edition vodkas.
Known as distiller's exclusives, these special brews — rested in Calfornia wine barrels— will be offered during special tastings at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14 and Friday, Feb. 15.
During these events, which can be booked here, the new vodkas will be paired with a sampling of Berkeley-based TCHO chocolates.
One of the new vodkas, Syrah Barrel-Reserve, is a limited-release version made using Hangar 1 Straight Vodka that’s finished for three years in eighth-use syrah barrels from the distillery's Alameda neighbors, Building 43 Winery.
Hangar 1 insiders assert that this vodka's mouthfeel benefits from time spent in the syrah barrel, which imparts aromas of vanilla, cassia, and honeycomb with notes on the palate of cardamom, warm sugar, and snickerdoodle.
The other new arrival, Petite Sirah Barrel-Reserve, is also a limited-release vodka made using Hangar 1 Straight Vodka laid down at the distillery for three years in seventh-use petite sirah barrels from Building 43 Winery. Insiders say that this vodka offers aromas of poached plum, caramelized sugar, and sandalwood.
Both vodkas will be available exclusively at the distillery and bottle shop for a limited time. Only a hundred cases of each were created.
