Hidden Gems Revealed

What’s your favorite Alameda treasure?

Angela Ganci: I will have to say the bocce ball courts at Lincoln Park. It is so cool that we have these courts available to the public. You can play a fun game and enjoy one of our most beautiful parks at the same time. If you’re lucky, you may even get to witness some club pros playing there.

John Beall: There is an abandoned park on the Navy base near the Main Street ferry terminal from where you can see an incredible view of the Bay Bridge and Golden Gate Bridge overlapping each other on the horizon. It’s an incredible sight that I don’t think most people know about.

Hannah Foote: I think that Julie’s Coffee & Tea Garden is a hidden jewel in Alameda. I love that it is on the quieter end of Park Street and that it is not a chain. They have a very wide variety of herbal teas offered, hot or iced. When the weather is warm, I like to order the lavender lemonade and sit in the garden. It is my go-to spot for a meetup with friends for a coffee date.

Mike Gill: My girlfriend and I always love to visit the Park Street Plaza. It’s our favorite spot in town and where I go to Bonne Vie for their hand-picked craft beer and wine selection and where she gets some really high quality purses and clothes for crazy-good deals at Aphrodite’s Closet. The Plaza is truly hidden and is totally a jewel.

Sami Adranly: When people come to Alameda for sporting events at the Bladium or to the fields at the old Navy base, I don’t think they realize all of the amazing things that the base can offer. One that comes to mind is being able to watch a stunning view of the San Francisco skyline melting away with the sunset while sipping Rock Wall wine and eating a great meal from Scolari’s. This location with its view is a jewel for sure.

Melissa Margolis: My favorite hidden jewel of Alameda is Christmas Tree Lane during the winter holiday. I love watching a normal street transform into a colorful, creative wonderland. I go back to view it every year.
