Homemade Cafe Announces New Pop-Up
The prix-fixe meal features lobster mac-and-cheese and more.
Berkeley's historic Homemade Cafe has just announced that its next monthly pop-up dinner will be on Friday, June 29 with seatings at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.
The four-course prix-fixe menu will be priced at $85, inclusive of tax and gratuity. An optional pairing of wines by the glass will also be available for an additional $24.
This pop-up dinner menu will include "One In A Melon," a dish comprising watermelon, watercress, prosciutto-wrapped nectarines, watermelon rind, and blue cheese; "He’s Her Lobster!," which is lobster mac-and-cheese topped with homemade potato chips and truffle oil; "I’ll Take Two," which comprises a homemade short-rib slider and homemade smoked sausage on a bun served with slaw and potato salad; and "Sweet Treat," a homemade double-chocolate brownie with ice cream, salted caramel sauce, whipped cream, nuts, and a cherry on top.

Highlights of the Sacramento Street restaurant's casual fifty-seat dining room include booth seating, fanciful chandeliers, and an exhibition kitchen fronted by counter seats — plus, weather permitting, sidewalk tables seating twelve.
Homemade Cafe was launched in 1979 by Norm Berzon and Janet Hinze; the pair sold it in 2011 to longtime employee Collin Doran.
Having grown up in Berkeley — and having grown up eating at Homemade — Doran subsequently worked as a busboy at the cafe’s now-defunct Hollis Street location. He also worked at Bay Wolf. Having been employed as everything from dishwasher to kitchen manager to chef, he is currently preparing for Homemade's imminent fortieth anniversary.
For its nearly four decades, the venue has been renowned for serving classic American diner fare for breakfast and lunch. Pop-up dinners debuted this year.
