It's one of the newest links in the Philippines' largest fast-food chain.

The Filipino-themed fast-food group Jollibee — creator of the world-famous Chickenjoy — recently opened a new location in Hayward.

Located at 24536 Hesperian Blvd., it's part of an ambitious nationwide expansion and is one of the newest links in the Philippines' largest fast-food chain, which was named one of Asia's "50 Fab Companies" by Forbes Asia Magazine and which now has over 4,600 locations across 21 different countries including Macau, Brunei, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Malaysia, and many more.

The Hayward store is Jollibee's 38th location in the United States, where company leaders hope to place 150 stores by 2023. Its first US branch opened in Daly City in 1998.

California is of particular interest to company leaders because of its diversity and thriving food scene, according to a press release.

"Knowing that accessibility is important to our customers, we're so excited to be able to expand our reach across the state and bring additional Jollibee locations to the communities that have already shown us support and expressed their love for the brand," said Maribeth Dela Cruz, president of JFC North America Philippine Brands.

Jollibee's hand-breaded, crispy-outside, juicy-inside Chickenjoy is often served with hot gravy and sweet-savory Jolly Spaghetti — studded with savory ham and hot-dog chunks.

The company's Peach Mango Pie features fruit imported from the Philippines.

Eager fans were already lining up outside the new Hayward store even before its Sept. 27 opening day.
