Major Marina Modernization Materializes

A major marina project surfaces plus the city wins an appeal against Ann Marie Gallant, and gains praise for Alameda Landing.

House Boats?

Pacific Shops Inc. has hired a team to transform the Alameda Marina into a new development with housing, industrial and maritime use, and other commercial uses. The local sailing community is worried the real intention is to replace the marina.

New ED

The U.S.S. Hornet Museum has hired its first female executive director, Jill Knowland Rapposelli. She will lead its operations, educational programs, and capital campaign. She was COO of Oakland’s Chabot Space & Science Center for 10 years.

Appeal Failed

The California Court of Appeal ruled against Ann Marie Gallant in her lawsuit against the city alleging wrongful termination as interim city manager. Alameda was awarded $250,000 in attorneys fees and can recoup other fees.

Serving You

Citizens can report annoyances like litter, dumping, graffiti, potholes, and more through the city’s new online platform SeeClickFix. Download the app from the city’s website or file a website request at www.AlamedaCa.gov/Submit-Request. Calling 510-747-7900 works, too.

Recycling Food

Dana Frasz is launching Alameda Kitchen, a project that uses leftovers and less-than-perfect edibles from Imperfect Produce and others to feed the homeless and the poor as well as giving them job-training skills. The kitchen will operate out of vacant commercial kitchen space at the Alameda Point Collaborative.

Charges Filed

Kathleen Perkins, 57, of Alameda, and her son, Matt Arnstein, 18, face misdemeanor and felony charges in connection with the death of 17-year-old Clay Harding. A skateboarder known as C-Bone, Harding died after mixing prescription drugs and drinking alcohol at a party at their house that Perkins failed to adequately supervise.

LEED Certified

The Alameda Free Library has attained LEED Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, thanks to its shredded denim insulation, natural light usage, solar panels, and other features.

Public-Private Partnership

Alameda Landing has been selected for a Phoenix Award, an honor recognizing the city’s successful collaboration with developer Catellus for turning a blighted area near the Webster and Posey tubes into a productive retail and residential project.

New Course

The city got its first view of the Jack Clark (South) Course courtesy of Rees Jones, the renowned architect who is known universally for the renovations he does for golf courses. So far, local golf fans are pleased with what they have seen.
