Famous Frontman

Roger Daltrey plays the Fox.

Everyone knows Roger Daltrey for his magnetic stage presence and captivating voice as the lead singer of The Who, but the legendary rock star was more than just the band’s frontman. Under Daltrey’s guidance, The Who famously ran the gamut of musical genres from old timey R&B to psychedelic pop to even goofy novelty (or however you might classify “Boris the Spider”).

Although he enjoyed success as a solo musician in the years after leaving the band he helped found, Daltrey eventually drifted more toward acting, appearing in stage productions and TV serials. But 2018 marks a return of sorts for Daltrey as he is scheduled to release his first solo studio album in 28 years.

Daltrey has also penned an autobiography, looking back at a lifetime that reads like a greatest moments in rock history — from headlining at Woodstock to co-creating Tommy, one of the world’s first rock operas. Who better to guide you through the history of hard rock music than the man who saw it all and helped make it all a reality? Thursday, March 15, 8 p.m., $75-$149, Fox Theater, 1807 Telegraph Ave., Oakland. TheFoxOakland.com
