Oakland's Market Hall Foods is celebrating France's biggest holiday at Rockridge Market Hall from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow, July 14, with its second annual Bastille Day Soirée -- this time, featuring Georgeanne Brennan, author of La Vie Rustic: Cooking and Living in the French Style

Attendees can meet Brennan, enjoy samples based on recipes in her latest book -- which she will autograph for purchasers -- and hear stories about living and traveling in the land of the Gauls. Attendees can also meet Kitty Keller, founder of Oakland's award-winning KL Keller Foodways, purveyor of French salts, jams, nougats, oils, and more.

Spilling outdoors onto the Market Hall sidewalks, the event will also include tastings of artisanal cheeses as well as a chance to dance to authentic French music and win French-food items via a spinnable prize wheel.

In both its Oakland and Berkeley locations, Market Hall Foods is marking Bastille Day from today, July 13, through July 16 with a special French menu inspired by Brennan's book -- and are also offering discounts on many French artisanal products.
