This is one-of-a-kind Shakespeare theater with Corsican folk music and Gregorian chants.
Established in 1996 by Grzegorz Bral and Anna Zubrzycki, Song of the Goat Theatre quickly became known throughout its native Poland and throughout Europe in general for its daring and innovative attempts to delve into the heart of the acting craft.
The troupe strives constantly to unlock the potential of theater as a transcendent art form in hopes that an audience will leave with the knowledge that they’ve just experienced a sublime moment that can only be offered through this medium.
The theater tackles Shakespeare’s King Lear for the Zellerbach stage, performing a new take on the classic tragic tragedy of a proud king undone by his scheming daughters and his own love of flattery. The show was a smash hit at Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival, where audiences fell in love with the troupe’s visionary musical take on the play.
Song of the Goat performs Lear as an oratorio combining traditional Corsican folk music with somber medieval Gregorian chant to create a one-of-a-kind theatrical experience.
