Next Homemade Café Pop-Up Announced

It's set for July 27.

Berkeley's Homemade Café has announced the date of its next monthly prix-fixe pop-up dinner: Friday, July 27.

At the last such pop-up — held on June 29 — owner-chef Collin Doran told East Bay 365:

"This was the fourth pop-up, and I wasn't sure how it was going to work out."

Apparently it worked out fine, as the restaurant was thronged that night with guests enjoying watercress salad, lobster mac-and-cheese, house-made sausage sandwiches and sliders, and rich chocolate-brownie sundaes. 

"I tried to create a menu that was all about classic summertime comfort foods, but done really nicely," said Doran, a Berkeley native who showed us his new tattoo.

Inked down his left forearm just weeks earlier was the word "eggs," which Doran said "goes together" with the older tattoo running down his right arm, which says "bacon."

He said the new tattoo commemorated his engagement with fiancée Tatiana Guerreiro Ramos, who was working alongside him that night and whose idea the pop-up dinners were in the first place, according to Forbes.

The menu for the July pop-up dinner will include an amuse-bouche heirloom gazpacho shooter followed by chicken-liver mousse with Acme bread, pickled onions and peach mostarda; clams with chorizo and peas in a saffron broth; crispy pork belly over lentils and greens; and bourbon butterscotch pudding with candied bacon, cocoa nibs, and espresso-caramel sauce.
