“Take me down to the Paradise City, where the grass is green and the girls are pretty.” That iconic line, as instantly recognizable as any rock refrain, introduced the world to the now-legendary hard rock band Guns N’ Roses, as the breakout hit from their debut 1987 album Appetite for Destruction.
Since then, they’ve become one of the top-selling bands in the world, inspiring metalhead fans on every continent to head bang and throw the hook’em horns. But rumors swirled after their last world tour in 2014 that the band might break up when news broke of mounting tensions between vocalist Axl Rose and lead guitarist Slash as well as hints that guitairist Ron Thal might be moving on to new projects.
Could this be the end of an unforgettable chapter in rock history? Luckily, it wasn’t so.
Fans rejoiced when Axl and Slash made up and the band announced the start of the Not In This Lifetime tour, with 15 stops in North America—including the Oracle Arena. Looks like Guns N’ Roses is here to stay. Nov. 21, 7:30 p.m., $62-$737, Oracle Arena, 7000 Coliseum Way, Oakland, OracleArena.com.
