Puesto Mexican Artisan Kitchen & Bar is opening in Concord this Sunday, Nov. 11.

The family-owned restaurant is helmed by brothers Eric, Alan, and Alex Adler, alongside cousins Isidoro and Moy Lombrozo and partner/executive chef Luisteen Gonzalez — a Mexico City native who credits his grandmother and fisherman father with his lifelong love of good food.

Working with Gonzalez is executive creative chef Katy Smith, a former culinary assistant to celebrity chef Rick Bayless.

“With our new East Bay location in Concord, and our existing Santa Clara location, our aim is to become as much a part of the larger Bay Area community as we have in San Diego and Orange County,” said co-owner Eric Adler, who calls himself and his brothers "tacoteurs."

"As first-generation Mexican-Americans, we have been immersed in authentic Mexican cooking since childhood," Adler explained on the company's website. "Traveling has fueled our fascination with how local cuisine reflects the people, art, and culture of a city. We frequently visit Mexico City on the hunt for everything from innovative flavors to treasured family traditions handed down from generation to generation."

Puesto's Mexico City-influenced tacos feature handcrafted, non-GMO, organic, stone-ground blue-cornmeal tortillas as well as sustainable meats, local produce, made-from-scratch salsas, and the restaurant group's signature melted cheese.

Popular items include a filet mignon taco (melted cheese, avocado, spicy pistachio serrano) and a vegetable taco (peppers, potatoes, corn, tomato, nopales, and avocado, topped with a zucchini blossom).

Executive pastry chef Erik Aronow's dessert program features modern twists on authentic Mexican sweets such as Tres Leches de Café (mascarpone whip, mocha sauce, dulce de freesias) and the Coconut Crema Trifle (devil’s-food cake, coconut crema, peanut-butter crunch bar, Mexican chocolate gelato). In partnership with local favorite Humphry Slocombe, the dessert menu also features a Corn Ice Cream with Strawberry Jam Swirl and White Chocolate Cookie Crunch made exclusively in collaboration with Puesto.

The craft bar program specializes in Mexican wines and beers as well as agave spirits sourced from various regions of Mexico.

Arftully designed with a custom dual-layer mural by local graffiti artist Chor Boogie — whose work has appeared in the Smithsonian Institution, the San Diego Museum of Art, and other prestigious venues and pointedly addresses issues of race, class, gender, neo-imperialism, corporate corruption, substance abuse, health care, drug policy reform, and the rights of indigenous peoples — the 7,500-square-foot Concord restaurant will feature indoor and outdoor seating. A 750-square-foot Douglas fir wall is outfitted with a custom electronic light show while balsa-wood tabletops with copper inlay reflect the unique "Taco Heaven" chandelier.

This new Concord location joins other Puesto locations in Santa Clara, San Diego, Irvine, and La Jolla. The latter was its first location, launched in 2012. Among other awards, Puesto is a three-time winner of the People's Choice Award at the LA Weekly's Tacolandia and recurrently ranks on Eater San Diego's "Essential 38" best-restaurant lists.
