The Face of Regional Italian Cooking



Chris Pastena started cooking at an early age surrounded by accomplished cooks: his Italian grandmothers. Thirteen years ago he landed in Oakland with his wife, Jana, and they opened Chop Bar, followed by Lungomare and Calavera—employing 180 people in all. At Lungomare, Executive Chef and partner Craig DiFonzo focuses on house-made Italian food, taking full advantage of height-of-the-season ingredients. While delicious food is central to the Pastena’s and Craig’s way of life, so is giving back to the community they love. “We share many core values and No. 1 is building and supporting our wonderful Oakland community,” Pastena says.
