Responsibilities:
- Posting new magazine content to the magazine Web site as new issues are produced (using our Web-based editor)
- Resizing, processing and posting of images related to content
- Helping to maintain calendar and dining guide listings
- Working with production and editorial departments when required
- Support Web Editor and help the magazine site look great and be rich in content
Requirements:
- Journalist or college student seeking to learn how print publications utilize the internet
- Energetic, creative and self-initiated
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills; outstanding team player

Inside Sales / Customer Service
Oakland Magazine is looking for a full-time inside sales professional to help us grow.
Main responsibilities include:
• Appointment setting for outside sales representatives with both established account base and prospecting new business.
• Account follow-up with media kits and related information to facilitate the selling process.
• Account follow-up on advertising artwork and approvals.
• Lead management.
• Customer service.
About You:
• Strong telephone presence and excellent verbal skills.
• Previous print advertising sales experience with proven excellence is a plus.

BEFORE YOU PITCH any ideas, however, it’s imperative that you familiarize yourself with our magazines, which includes general understanding of what our lifestyle-oriented magazines actually cover and our sections and departments. The editor prefers writers to pitch articles for specific sections of the magazine when possible. All queries should be well thought out and well researched yet short, to the point and information packed. Upon receipt of a query that may interest the editor, clips and writing samples will be requested as evidence of the writer’s ability to complete the proposed assignment. Those should be sent via e-mail as attachments.
Typical front of the book section are less than 200 words (section fronts are closer to 450 words), departments are in the 650-word to 1,000-word range and feature articles hit the 2,500-word-or-plus mark. Our lead-time is about three months, so timely items should factor that component into the proposal. Pay depends on the complexity of the assignment, and Alameda Publishing Group pays upon publication.
WANTED: EDITORIAL INTERNS
Do you have what it takes to be an editorial intern for Alameda Publishing Group, publisher of Oakland Magazine and Alameda Magazine?
We’re looking for need bright, outgoing and energetic non-paid editorial interns to lend their developing expertise to our two East Bay lifestyle magazines. Interns primarily write and coordinate the calendar sections but have ample opportunity to pitch, report and write short pieces, departments and features to develop clips.
THE COMMITMENT
We’re looking for interns who can spend a minimum of 16 hours per week on a flexible schedule performing general editorial duties—proofreading, art coordination, reporting, fact checking, copyediting—for four to six months at our Oakland offices. Candidates should understand lifestyle-oriented content, have basic reporting experience, be accurate and be curious about exploring the East Bay, Oakland and Alameda. Our goal is to develop reliable, good freelance journalists for an ongoing professional writing and editing relationship.
QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates should be experienced in journalism. Upper-level undergraduate J students and graduate students are encouraged to apply. J degree preferred, but enthusiasm for magazine journalism and related editorial experience accepted in lieu of degree.
