Wayans End Development Talks

A new state of the art film production studio and arts and retail center will not be built on a former Army base in West Oakland, the Oakland Tribune reported Friday. According to city officials, The Wayans Brothers development team pulled out of negotiations with the city leaving the future of the base in question. The decision by the Wayans Brothers-Pacifica Capital Urban Development Partnership came two weeks after signing an exclusive negotiating agreement to bring the state of the art film production studio, creative business park, retail village, children's educational fun zone, digital arts center and a luxury hotel to the former base, creating as many as 1,500 jobs in the process. The city had approved the deal, despite disappointing results with a previous Wayans Brothers development team. But the development group wrote a letter to the city's redevelopment agency this week opting out of the negotiating agreement. The group sited several reasons for opting out including whether stacked shipping containers would block views of the San Francisco Bay and the group also questioned the formula used to determine the fair market value of the land.

Earl J. Rivard

You can't keep the good ones down. Alameda native Earl J. Rivard was hit by a car when he was four months old and then, later in life, was hit two more times. The blind and partially-paralyzed Rivard doesn't let any of this get him down, releasing Troubadour Blue.
Track: "Saving Face."
