Alameda Beach Closed

A quarter-mile strip of Crown Memorial State Beach in Alameda was temporarily closed yesterday, the San Francisco Chronicle reported yesterday. Quarter and dime-sized tar balls containing oil were found on the stretch of beach, causing the closure. Officials believe the oil was possibly remnants of the Nov. 7 Cosco Busan spill as other oil slicks from that spill have turned up in the bay this week. Beach goers are instructed to not touch the tar balls. The U.S. Coast Guard is working with the California Department of Fish & Game, East Bay Regional Parks and the Office of Spill Prevention and Response to clean-up the mess.
