Floyd and Feng

The weekend is hot in Alameda:

• Summer is here, and there is no better way to spend those summer nights than at a free outdoor concert. Grab a picnic, a blanket, some friends and head out to this always-popular concert series. The 11th annual Concerts at the Cove kicks off tonight as House of Floyd brings the sounds of Pink Floyd to Crab Cove. Hank Hooper will perform children’s music during intermission. The concert series is presented by the West Alameda Business Association in conjunction with the East Bay Regional Park District. 5:30 p.m.–7:30 p.m., June 13, free, 1252 McKay Ave., (510) 523-5955.

• Sculpture artist Feng Jin (who will be featured in the July issue in Alamedia) will show his work as part of the Open Studios event this weekend. Check out this talented artist! 11 a.m.–6 p.m., June 14-15, free, 2775 Pearl Harbor Road, (510) 522-1076.

• Great art comes to life this weekend at East Bay Open Studios as some 50,000 people visit more than 400 artists displaying their work in more than 400 locations in Oakland, Berkeley, Richmond, Walnut Creek, Dublin, Livermore and Benicia. The area’s largest art event is free; maps are available at various East Bay locations, in the East Bay Express or at Pro Arts this month. June 14-15, (510) 763-4361.

Earl J. Rivard

You can't keep the good ones down. Alameda native Earl J. Rivard was hit by a car when he was four months old and then, later in life, was hit two more times. The blind and partially-paralyzed Rivard doesn't let any of this get him down, releasing Troubadour Blue.
Track: "Saving Face."
