The Bank of Alameda sponsored event celebrates Island women in business and helps them make connections and contacts. East Bay residents will soon have more Whole Foods and Trader Joe's stores to choose from ... and not a moment too soon. In Oakland, Trader Joe's is poised to take over two former Albertson stores—one on College Avenue and one on Lakeshore Avenue. But the big news is that tomorrow, Whole Foods Market launches a new store at 230 Bay Place at the corner of 27th and Harrison streets in Oakland. Alameda County District Attorney Tom Orloff on Monday defended his office's handling of a sexual assault case against Ignacio De La Fuente Jr. after his father, Oakland City Council President Ignacio De La Fuente, claimed that his son was innocent, the Oakland Tribune reported last week. Quarterback JaMarcus Russell signed a contract with the Oakland Raiders last week and joined his teammates at practice for the first time since June, the Oakland Tribune reported Thursday. He agreed to a six-year contract Tuesday that guarantees him approximately $31 million, flew to Oakland later that day and rejoined the team after missing 48 days of practices and meetings, four exhibition games and Oakland's regular-season opener Sunday.
