ennifer Loring can’t help but grab her camera and cruise the Island come December when houses across Alameda light up for the holidays. In addition to wandering down Thompson Avenue (aka Christmas Tree Lane), Loring explores other parts of Alameda for hours, diligently searching for photogenic holiday displays. “Every year the decorations seem to get bigger and better,” she says. In 2004, Loring found this pseudo-snowbound home off Gibbons Drive before heading over to Christmas Tree Lane, where she says patience and “lots of luck and timing” led to good shots amid the passersby gawking at the glowing homes. “Most people don’t bother to drive around the whole Island,” says Loring, who is sure to show holiday visitors the “amazing displays” across the whole city.
