A local favorite for a reason, Jim's Coffee Shop offers homestyle cooking and plenty of it with large portions and quick service. The sandwiches are large and prepared to order with the usual accompaniments while breakfast treats like the short stack or two eggs (any style) get expert treatment. Opened in 1960, the coffee shop has undergone no less than four expansions, the most recent in 2002, but most days one finds the restaurant full to capacity anyway. Loud, but friendly, Jim's offers a great chance to see your neighbors and brush up on Alameda history with the photos and drawings covering the walls. Breakfast and lunch daily. Dinner Tue.-Sat.
