The first Japanese restaurant to open in Alameda (today there are about 13), Kamakura is best known for its proprietor, Akiko Faith Yamato. Her business philosophy is okyakusama wa kamisama desu, which is Japanese for customers are God. The sushi chefs are trained in Japan, and the least experienced comes with 11 years on the job. The result is traditional Japanese cuisine, with glistening fresh sashimi and sushi prepared at the sushi bar, but Kamakura chefs also prepare today's popular big rolls with very non-traditional ingredients. Open for lunch Mon.-Sat.; dinner is served daily.
