Katherine Corcoran
Katherine Corcoran is a freelance journalist and former staff writer for the San Jose Mercury News, where she covered race relations, education and family issues. Her freelance work has appeared in the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, the San Francisco Chronicle, West and SV magazines and on the KQED-FM, 88.5, radio program Pacific Time. She lives in Alameda with her husband and daughter. Corcoran takes on two assignments for this issue. In “Heaven Sent,” she writes about the smooth renovation and expansion of her bungalow. In the second, “Look Who’s Moving to Alameda,” she checks out the new crop of homebuyers now calling the Island home.
Craig Merrill
Craig Merrill is an editorial photographer who specializes in portraits and events and has spent 25-plus years working in the medium of film and photos. An Alameda resident, he’s a San Mateo native who studied film production and videography at San Francisco State University and the University of Southern California. He is also a former motion picture and television cameraman. A frequent contributor to Alameda Magazine, Merrill puts his talent to work in this issue photographing a few outstanding members of the Island’s graduating class of 2007.
Julia Park
Julia Park, a former associate editor at Alameda Magazine, is an award-winning writer, editor and journalist. Her essays, articles and reviews have appeared in the Alameda Sun, The Monthly and the San Francisco Chronicle, among others. She is the founder of Red Hills Review. Her last piece for Alameda Magazine was a profile of local author Joe Quirk. She lives at Alameda Point, where it’s always tiki time, with a tank full of guppies, piles of books and her beloved family. She is at work on a poetry collection and a memoir.
