Sunset Meditation

It's dusk; a ferry has just pulled away from the Ferry building in San Francisco toward Alameda. Someone is watching from the stern as the city becomes more and more somber. It conveys the feeling of loss-a lost job, a failed business, a broken marriage, even death. But the light still catches the white furrows of the boat wake and raises hope-like a farmer tilling the soil in anticipation of spring and new life. The hope is fragile since we can't see the destination and so it raises questions: Does Alameda have the warm glow of welcome or the dark shadow of emptiness?
