MOW Thanks

On behalf of the board of directors of Alameda Meals on Wheels and the Alameda Friendly Visitors, I would like to thank everyone who participated, donated, volunteered and attended our 10th annual Community Faire and Wine Tasting Fundraiser. Our community, despite a record heat wave, rallied to help us exceed our expectations by breaking 2005’s financial totals.
I would like to extend a very special thank you to our friends and premier sponsor, the Guzman Family of La Piñata No. 3 Restaurant, and to our generous hosts, Ken Klein, Mike Zellner, Jeff Loehr and Lynne McIntosh, at our fabulous new location, Wind River Systems Inc. They made our event a reality.
We also extend our thanks to our generous community partners who helped underwrite this year’s event: Sen. Don Perata, Janice Lee of Edward Jones, Don and Sue Lindsey of Gallagher & Lindsey, Martha Beazley, Tik and Jon Thurston, Bruce Gordon and Susan McLaughlin, Marcia Hedges, Alameda Auto Lab, Alameda Boys and Girls Club, Rosenblum Cellars, Schroeder-Dent Printing, Paul and Pat Bail, Karen and Don Kellenberger, Fleet Reserve Association, Branch 10, the Oyen Family, Harbor Bay Realty, Sushi House, Alameda County Foundation, Balloon Mania, Cardinal Point at Mariner Square, George and Jean Phillips, Alameda Rental Center, Alameda County Industries, Alameda police and fire departments, Art Yowza, Cynthia and Tom Myers, Jazzette, Kathy Moehring and Kelly Park, Terrence Brewer Trio, Kate Pryor of Tucker’s Super-Creamed Ice Cream, the Harbor Bay Companies, Bank of Alameda, Alameda Magazine, the Alameda Journal, the Alameda Sun, the Meals on Wheels board members who participated and especially Tom Squire.
Our event was made more complete with our award-winning wineries, Rosenblum Cellars, DuVin Fine Wines, Chatom Vineyards, J. Lohr Winery, John Robert Eppler Wines, Quady Winery, Sunset Cellars and the superb cuisine from Angela’s, Aroma, Barceluna, C’era Una Volta, J.P. Seafood, Pappo’s and Trader Joe’s.
It takes many people and businesses from Alameda and surrounding communities to create such a wonderful and worthy event. Monies raised go directly to our programs providing hot meals seven days a week to anyone in need and offering a friendly visit to someone who is lonely and earns peace of mind knowing that a special volunteer will be checking daily on someone who may not have a connection to the outside world. Amazingly, this is done without federal or state funding, thanks to your donations of time and money. Sincere thanks to one and all.

Honored Musician

I wanted to write and thank Alameda Magazine and writer Judson True for the wonderful opportunity and exposure extended to me by way of the recent feature article “Calling All Jazz Fans” [July/August 2006]. The response has been great; being a longtime resident and a committed part of this community mean a lot to me, and it is an honor for me to be part of the publication. Many thanks.
