Hinn Tha, Alameda’s only Burmese restaurant, has updated its quarters with a remodel that closed the wall between the adjoining Salon One and the restaurant. In the now-private, freshly painted dining room, friendly service continues to be paired with savory curries and spicy biryanis.
Manager Nicolas Kui boasts that the menu features only family recipes, and recommends the chef’s specialty, Stewed Boned Chicken Dun Pauk. To celebrate its remodel, Hinn Tha enjoyed a grand re-opening in late May, and for its fourth year continues to be a leader in ethnic cuisine in Alameda. 1345 Park St. (510) 865-8338, www.hinntha.com
Robek’s is samba-ing its way into Alameda in typical high-energy Brazilian fashion. Robek’s, a new fast-nutrition alternative to fast food, offers a variety of healthy foods including smoothies and the latest trend in cereal: Brazilian-style Energy Bowls. Instead of flakes ’n’ milk, Energy Bowls are packed with organic granola and a blend of sliced fruits, and then splashed with juices like papaya and cherry. Try one with the Brazilian Açai, the energizing chocolate-berry-tasting Amazonian super-fruit, or take a Green Tea Shot if you’re feeling a little more daring. Robek’s is planning a grand opening on Park Street next door to Peet’s toward the end of the year. www.robeks.com -Ashley Burns
