Prepare for the coming of Comatopia. The mini festival brought to you by the San Francisco bluegrass ensemble Brothers Comatose is moving to Berkeley this year for a special holiday party, Comatopia by the Bay, presented by Fieldwork Brewing Company.
The Brothers Comatose are known not just for their high-energy blend of folksy Americana and modern rock, but also for their unique concerts that encourage audience participation that goes far beyond the usual “please clap now” commands of the average concert.
The brothers — and they are brothers; the band was founded by frontman Ben and guitarist Alex Morrison — call for the crowd to join in with singalongs, call-and-responses, hoots and hollers, and hamboning. At some point, the Brothers Comatose show takes on the same frenetic, vibrating energy as a down-home gospel revival.
The Brothers Comatose headline at Comatopia, but the band will be joined on stage by guests like The Lil Smokies and groovy funk jam band Royal Jelly Jive. You’ll want to wake up for this one. Fri., Dec. 13, 8 p.m., $26, UC Theatre Taube Family Music Hall, 2036 University Ave., Berkeley, TheUCTheatre.org.
