The 10th annual Orinda Olive Festival puts olives front and center at the Wagner Ranch Nature Area.

Friends of the Wagner Ranch Nature Area hosts the Orinda Olive Festival, giving East Bay residents a chance to enjoy the beautiful historic ranch and 18-acre nature preserve as well as to taste a wide variety of olive oils from local producers.

Samples come from vineyards all over the Bay Area and beyond and will include an extra virgin olive blend from Grumpy Goats Farm; olive oils and balsamic vinegars from Amphora Nueva; certified organic samples from McEvoy Ranch; and exotic choices from Olive Drop in Lodi.

Beyond olive oils, attendees will also have the rare chance to join guided nature walks strolling through Wagner Ranch’s meadows, woods, ponds, streams, and its 135-year-old olive grove. Kids can test their spitting prowess in the infamous “Olive Pit Spit Contest.” Other activities for the young — and young at heart — include do-it-yourself arts and crafts, searching for turtles and tadpoles in the ranch ponds, a toddler treasure hunt in the garden, and learning all about wax and honey production from local beekeepers. Food and beverages are available from food trucks on-site or bring your own picnic. There will be a ukulele concert in the historic olive grove and ongoing student music recitals near the garden.
