Feast for the Beasts

Feast for the Beasts

Help feed the elephants at the Oakland zoo.

Elephants gotta eat, and these big behemoths don’t just want peanuts. The Oakland Zoo holds Feast for the Beasts, a celebration of everything edible and a chance for the public to help provide a meal for some of the biggest, hungriest critters on Earth. At Feast for the Beasts, visitors get to go into zoo’s enormous 6.5-acre elephant enclosure to set out their breakfast treats. The elephants won’t be in the enclosure at the same time, so you don’t need to worry about the guests of honor stealing a snack before the big event.

Space is limited, so only the first 250 visitors will have the opportunity to go into the pen to help with the set-up, but everyone can enjoy watching the spectacle afterwards when the elephants return to chow down on fresh watermelons, whole cabbage heads, cantaloupes, and sweet potatoes. Attendees can donate their own fresh fruits and vegetables for the big event and receive a free kids’ ride ticket as thanks. Saturday, March 31, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., free with zoo admission. Oakland Zoo, 9777 Golf Links Road, Oakland, OaklandZoo.org
