It’s a partnership between Oakland-based Clorox and the TerraCycle recycling company.
Oakland-based Clorox announced this week that its subsidiary Glad® has just introduced recyclable food bags.
This move is part of TerraCycle’s major sustainability-based Loop pilot program, aimed at allowing more and more American consumers to receive their favorite branded products in reusable — rather than single-use — packaging.
According to a press release, consumers will now “be able to order products online and then receive and recycle their favorite food bags through a reusable steel container and return pouch.”
Along with Glad, the Clorox Company also encompasses other major brands such as Pine-Sol, Hidden Valley, Liquid Plumr, Brita, and Burt’s Bees.
“The Glad + Loop partnership allows simple, convenient, in-home recycling of plastic bags through the reordering of everyday food storage products. All that’s involved is simply stuffing the empty return pouch with used food bags and placing it in the container when you’re ready for a new order, leaving the rest to Glad and TerraCycle,” the press release stated.
Clorox is a signatory of the United Nations Global Compact, a confab of global leaders committed to sustainability. Clorox was also included in Barron’s list of 2019’s 100 Most Sustainable Companies.
“Glad’s purpose is to help consumers outsmart waste,” said Glad brand manager Drew Kozlak.
“Offering responsible consumer product solutions is just one of the ways we’re committed to sustainability, so we’re really excited to explore this option that lets you easily recycle your food bags,” Kozlak said.
