Perforce Sold to Summit Partners

Rent ordinance, new repair station, and bike lanes make the news, too.

Perforce Sold

Summit Partners has acquired Alameda-based Perforce Software. Companies like Salesforce, Electronic Arts, Cisco, and Samsung rely on Perforce’s platforms for secure collaborating. Founder Christopher Seiwald will be replaced by Janet Dryer.

 

About Rent

Councilmembers were expected to review a rent ordinance at their Feb. 16 meeting, touching on allowed rent increases, possible relocation assistance, and penalties for scofflaws.

 

U Fix

A bike pump and tools have been installed at the Alameda Free Library. The Dero Fix-It Station includes a rack for hanging a bike, tire levers, wrenches, and a pump. More may be coming.

 

Fewer Lanes?

The city may install bike lanes and reduce the number of traffic lanes from four to three on Central Avenue between Main Street/Pacific Avenue and Sherman Street/Encinal Avenue.

 

Tam Honored

The late Nielsen Tam, a longtime school board member and tireless champion of the less-fortunate, has been honored with a new bench at 1323 Park St. designed for seniors and the disabled.

 

Maya Lin Win

Raiders and NFL representatives praised Maya Lin students for winning the Super Bowl Play 60 Challenge. Fifth-graders racked up more minutes exercising than other Bay Area students. The school gets a $2,500 grant from the NFL and the Heart Association.

 

Golden Spoons

The Bay Farm School PTA staged Cupcake Wars with 54 kids entering 46 cupcake designs judged for creativity, technique, and taste. Nicholas Myovich-Robertson earned first honors, followed by Krista Mehlberg and Olivia Myovich-Robertson.

 

Few Homicides

According to City-Data.com, there have been 19 homicides in Alameda since 2001. On average, Alameda has had 1.26 murders a year since then. The homicide rate is 1.7 per 100,000 people. The most violent year was 2009 with four murders.

 

Fatal Wreck

A man whose SUV plunged into the Oakland Estuary drowned. He reportedly drove through the Bridgeside Shopping Center parking lot and crashed through a metal railing barrier without braking and sank in the estuary.
