Catch what the electropop master have up to at the New Parish where the band is sure to play new songs.
Local East Bay band The Seshen makes upbeat, complex electropop that draws from a diverse array of influences: hip-hop, R&B, West African music, electronic music, and indie rock. Band leaders (and married couple) singer/lyricist Lalin St. Juste and bassist/producer Akiyoshi Ehara are backed by layers of textured synthesizers and interesting percussion, the result of combining drum machines with live drummers (they have two).
St. Juste’s haunting and achingly beautiful melodies top off the recipe, paired with emotionally raw lyricism. The band’s last album, Flames & Figures, came out back in 2016. However, The Seshen released a new single this past October called “Eidolon,” a bold electronic song about resistance and resilience in the current U.S. political climate. Now, The Seshen is gearing up for the release of a new album later this year — currently, the release is slated for late summer or fall.
